Waxdoll - Never Stop

Are you in a hurry ? Once again, this ain't no problem to me. Just because, as of per usual, I'll start this review with a download link, just because you can stream and download this release, legally and for free, from a certain website that is widely known under the name of Jamendo. I am not the kind of guy who would expect you to read a full review before I am nice enough to give you the link. So, now you got it. Still reading ? Thanks. Then, let's go on.

This release is open-licensed. You can make copies for your friends.

A few minute ago, something struck me like a lighting : while Waxdoll is, to be true, the band that made me realise that I actually don't need an army of marketing specialists to make me think that an album is good - and it was half an eternity ago - I still hadn't published a review of one of their releases here. A really bad thing, that I had to correct immediately. So then, I don't have my black jack gum, but I have my faithful keyboard, a nice screen that I received in donation after I donated a painting of mine to a really nice guy, and also a €250 box powered by a Sempron 140 which allows me to pollute the infosphere with the random thoughts that are created in me by listening to such or such album. So here we go, and soon you will know why

a) Waxdoll is a great band... Or, actually, was a great band
b) Never Stop is the best way, I humbly think, to start your journey in Waxdoll's small galaxy

Waxdoll is a 90's band. Yes, a real, authentic, definitively honest (like anyone was, or was pretending to be, at the time), terrific 90's band. And Waxdoll is one of the best bands. Not one of the best 90's bands, but, to be true, one of the bands ever.

I listen to their work quite often since the day I discovered their music. If I remember correctly, it was back in 2008.

At this time, I was young, I was naive, I was handsome and the little fury animals from Alpha Centauri were still real little fury animals from Alpha Centauri. So then, came a day when I decided I would invest some time to wander across Jamendo until I discovered a band I liked. I said, I was naive, and Jamendo was the only open-licensed music site I knew at the time. I liked the idea to be able to share an album I liked with my friends, legally. So then, I plugged into Jamendo and started browsing endless pages of bands, giving a few ones a quick listen, having only the tagging (styles) information to determine if I was going to stream a few seconds or not.

It took me time, but, eventually, I discovered Waxdoll. And I've been, immediately, delighted by what I just found. My quest hadn't been vain. I found a band that was both on Jamendo and also able to make me think 'oh yeah, what a great band, I'm gonna spam any of my friends about them, I'm gonna blog about them, I'm gonna start a webradio that will broadcast their tunes, I am gonna listen to them until I got tired of it'.

One person, whom opinion is valuable to me, when listening to Waxdoll, suddenly realised that it was in fact possible for a band to be self-published, and, in the same time, better than many signed artists.

For me things are a bit different. For me Waxdoll is simply better than most signed artists. I like Waxdoll maybe as much as I like [insert random well known artist name here]. Because Waxdoll is Waxdoll, the great, unique and excellent Waxdoll.

But, at the point we now reached, you probably wonder how does this band's music sounds like, right ?

Well, you know The Stranglers ? The Stranglers are one of the best band ever. Well, Waxdoll, sometimes, can sound a bit like them. Other names that may immediately cross your mind when listening to their stuff, may be The Pixies (yes, the Eternally Touring Pixies, these ones) or maybe, oh, ahem, no, enough name dropping... Let's try to define Waxdoll music with words rather than with band names.

Excellent bass. Excellent keyboard. Excellent drums. Vocals, well, excellent. And guitars that are so great that if I had to sum they up in only one word, I would say, excellent. Waxdoll is making atmospheric music that use to go wild at the end of some songs, and when I say wild, think of the Velvet Underground going wild. Nothing less.

Now, the b) point. Why should you start your discovery of Waxdoll with Never Stop rather than with the other two releases ? I'll be short : because there's a song entitled 'Never Stop' that is so huge that... Stop whatever you are doing... Got back at the top of this review and click on the download link. Hurry up, hurry up. Why are you still reading this ? I told you to download this release ! Maybe if I start to type random characters you will stop reading this and download this album ? I don't know, but since I'm running out of tactics, that's what I am going to do : kfljezo afz fjazfjozeijfbv iuh zihg nv vh vze vdv izeufh zefhé"h sz zf zfh uzdf vi _çdv zv zef_çezf h fsui dv sdvosdvohdvzh voz ev zeovh zev_zev hé o"hfçé" fhé"f _ç é"f !
