contron - contron I

One Foot In The Grave.

Who knows ? Who knows ? One Foot In The Grave... Remember, old ones ?

Back in the late 90's, Beck had been a astounding phenomenon. Shortly after Kurt Cobain's death, the Music Industry had been trying various things to save its soul. Among them, well, was Beck.

Beck recorded an album. It is still an excellent one, it is called Mellow Gold. Beck was smart. For the first time in my own life, an artist was having a worldwide success by catching the establishment's attention using unusual ways.

Beck recorded a crappy album from where he was living. Well, I must admit, it happened he was living somewhere maybe between Marin and Orange County. Closer to Orange County.

So then, in the place he was, he recorded, with few bucks and much work and inspiration, an album... Then, some airplays, Geffen contract, Beck is told to have asked for the album to be released "as is". It was, also as it is told, released so.

But Mellow Gold doesn't worth that much to me. Actually, shortly after this, Beck became, in my young mind, just another one chewed by the machine, that spit the bones. But in the meanwhile One Foot In The Grave had been published.

And One Foot In The Grave is a major album. Think cosmic scale. I won't explain here how or why. The ones who care, will listen to it. But, actually, it became really (no, really...) important to me, since the first time I heard the cassette tape I had copied from a CD borrowed from another guy with my first name. And more and more over time.

A few time (years ? ) later, I've been kinda surprised to read in the local equivalent of Rolling Stone Magazine, that one of the magazine's readers wrote to show off with a top-whatever-albums list... And One Foot In The Grave was in the list.

Ok, you may think, who cares of all this ?

Starting from then, well, I began to feel a little less lonely, I was no more the only one in the world understanding how important this album is. One Foot In The Grave.

Then the wait started. How long until I can see a clear sign ?

Today I received an email. From a guy living somewhere in the US... I don't know much about him, and summing him up just by a place is, in this exact case, especially silly.

This guy recorded something that some may think that it would be accurate to strictly classify it in the "bedroom scene" category.

But who cares about scenes anymore ? I don't know. I'm not sure for me. All I can say.

This album, then.

This album is the sign I was waiting for. Now, just now, right now, I can say... The monster unleashed with One Foot is still out. And, by an interesting side effect, we got a perfectly timed perfect album. For a few ones. Very few.

I'm not sure you'll be among these ones. It's up to you to decide. The first step, as often, involves pointing your reticle, aim shoot bang : http://contron.bandcamp.com/

tiny moon - shitty unfinished yet-to-be-named demo 2013

Hello reader,

I'll start by introducing myself.

I'm a musician. I like music. I listen to some. Mostly mine. Whenever I meet an interesting project, I morbidly tend to spread the word about it.

This blog gathers the best I could find, for now. Each release review is about a... Release ! Each release reviewed was at the time I published the review, seen by me as among the best I ever met. In most cases, the decision-taking process is quite non-rational.

Today this, is about the brand new tiny moon 3-tracks maxi-mini-whatever.

I discovered tiny moon, reviewed shortly thereafter, and months after this, contacted him because this online magazine that is a blog, was changing its internet address.

Then the band told me about new stuff available, and now it's looping in random mode, here.

Ok, it's time for choice. I made mine. I won't delete this draft and will go on.

Everything is still here. Everything I wrote in the previous tiny moon review is somehow still true.

In the meanwhile, evolving can be spotted. Grab your glass - according to E.A. Poe, such a word in a sailor's mouth, at the time he was writing, was almost always to talk about a device made to see for miles.

No Monster Club once sang, if I heard correctly, "try to do much better, try to be more mysterious". As I wrote a long time ago, there's similarities between No Monster Club and tiny moon, to me.

And, it's alright, it's alright, alright, she moves, in mysterious wa-a-a-ay (very subtle reference to an audio 90's blockbuster) : tiny moon is a clear evidence as well as a deep mystery.

Let's be factual : technical skill in the instrument use may be heard more clearly, to me, compared to Songs About Girls And Stuff.

Compared to Songs About Girls And Stuff, that I haven't listened to for long and for which my opinion is more and more colored by my being, well, it's as good or possibly way better.

This review is being written in the French afternoon of Dec 30, and will be scheduled for automagic availability on January first of the year 2013, at midnight plus one minute, UTC.

I think that, as well as it is important that Underketing was started last year with Desperadow, tiny moon should be the first 2013 post.

You like this stuff. This, is for sure. Because you did not land on this page without reason, and these reasons are the reason why I think you like this stuff.

So then, next sibling, up to you, go ahead :
