Calloused - The Distance Between Us

Are you in a hurry ? Well, I understand you. So few time, so much things to do, and all these wannabee music reviewer trying to have you reading their totally pointless reviews (ahem, I think of me when writing this, hey, don't feel offended if you are a music reviewer)... So then, here's a link to buy this release right now - and you'll be able to preview just any track - from CDBaby, for download or on CD at your convenience.

This album was released back in 2009 by the band's label, namely Calloused Ventures.

Can you remember clearly 2009 ? At this time Myspace was still.. Ahem... I mean, I was still logging in on Myspace... And, once, I got 'friended' by a band, Peep Show Voyeurs (this is an English band who became totally silent just after announcing that their album would be available shortly, which is too bad, because this band was quite good, but who knows, they certainly have very good reasons...)... And, later, I discovered a friend of this new friend (know what I mean ? ). This friend from a friend (actually, a Myspace friends, which does not exactly means the same thing) was an Ohio (USA) based band named Calloused.

And, I listened to their tunes... I didn't like some parts of their vision of music... A bit too heavy, that kind... But I actually liked a lot some other parts... Especially their assumed Alice In Chains influence, and, much more than this, the very high emotional load that is packed into each of their songs.

Then - it was back in 2009, still - I ordered the CD they self-published (while, actually, they set their own label up to do so)... I worried a bit while I was waiting for it to come, will it get lost during the transportation process, that kind of fear... But I finally got it in my mailbox, and started to listen to it.

And I understood why this band was, over time, gaining a kind of strong reputation on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, alongside with numerous radio airplay. Just because, as I told before, even if actually this band may look pretty much ordinary, it is, to be true, not ! These musician are not afraid to invest themselves into their music, at each and every level. They are not doing what they do just in order to use their spare time - that's what I thought when listening to their tunes. Even if the style they are using is not exactly my cup of tea, there's also some so good points in their music, some points that totally makes it excellent according to my taste, that I started to spread the word about them here or there. Also, I learned the 'Spread the word' words in the process... But that's not a very important matter...

And since, I keep on speaking about them from time to time. Then, when thinking about what would be the next album to be featured here, I've been wondering a bit... Should I talk about Henparty, which is definitively a great band, or should I talk about Calloused, a great band too ? Eventually, once again, I decided that I would review Henparty's masterpiece later, and that the only thing I could do to thank the Calloused people to have released their highly enjoyable album, was by posting yet another review of it, but this time, on a blog devoted to music reviews rather than on such or such all-purpose blog. This way I'm done, Calloused gets once again a review due to me.

So then, it's up to you to decide. If this kind of music is the kind of music you like - and even if this is not the case, since this album is of a very high quality, I suggest you preview the songs... If you are not absolutely sure that you want to invest a few bucks in the buying process then, but are nevertheless a bit interested in their stuff, you can then search a bit on the web, where there were, at least once (and I don't know why it wouldn't be still true), some tracks available for full-length preview, and maybe even for free download (but about this, I'm not that sure). In any case, you will not spend your time in vain. Because Calloused was one of my 2009 favourites, and if you landed on this blog, there's a strong possibility that we have something in common, speaking about music we like, so I humbly think that using a few minutes of your time to decide if this band is for you or not is something you may want to do, just in case, because, if this band is actually for you, it would be too bad you do not know this fact.
