You may - or may not- know that I'm a damn lazy guy. I don't write much music reviews. I don't work much on my webradio. I keep on recording music but even for this I'm not that much efficient. But actually if you're reading this we're here to talk about music reviews, right ? If you can remember the leitmotiv in my music review writing was to spread the world about excellent albums only... I don't have time to waste to talk about average records. If I start typing you can be sure that I'm talking about a release that will *change your life forever* and I'm not kidding.
I haven't been writing much these past years, then, but actually sometimes there's a record that crosses my path and for which remaining silent would be a crime. I just cannot shut my mouth. I have to write. Yeah, yeah, you guessed, we're today talking about a masterpiece!
Back in the past years when my reviewing activities were more constant, labels used to tell me about their releases, which was great, because I could get my hands on awesome albums that flowed to me without lifting a finger. It was a golden age, but gone for good I think... Just because I got so lazy and am now longer writing much... But sometimes -it's quite rare but it happens- I got a friend of mine sharing a good release... And even more rarely, this release is so, so good that I have no other choice than to write here about it.
This happened recently. This happened with Песни для Маргериты Кагол (2014), that you can download for free on this popular music publishing platform by following the following link. And if I were you, I wouldn't wait much. Just because, because, you know, there's lot of music published on every minute in nowadays' hyper-connected world... It's hard to sort this all. Count on me. I'm here to speak about an album that is far, far, far above average. An album that, I think, I'll be keeping on listening to for years. An album that I'll play each time a friend come to my flat to meet me. To sum up, a gem. Admitting your musical taste are similar to mine (and if you're reading this, chance are high for such a thing), you will enjoy it as much as I do.
I didn't do any search about the band. The page says "Moscow". The name, as far as I know, is in Russian. But actually we're talking about a band that, I bet, is obsessively wearing out the best bands of the 77 punk scene records. Think of, for a light part, Sham 69. For a huge part, The Undertones, but for a less poppy, more straightforward rock tone. It's known land, but creative, introducing something new. It's, simply, excellent.
First off, the vocals are very expressive, emotional, that what struck me first. Exceptionally transmitting some kind of highly moving mood, it is undoubtedly a good point for the release. But also, the guitar chord lines are simply excellent, the song-writing is of an outstanding quality. The album is quite coloured, with variety, you'll never get bored while listening to it. As I said, it's the kind of release that can be by your side for years. It's an extremely rich mixture and you can be sure that you'll find interesting things in the composition listen after listen.
I talked bout the guitar chords, that are, definitively, very good, but the solo part of the guitar play is also very interesting, just like Mike Jones' ones in the first epoch of The Clash career. They are really adding something to the songs, being short, efficient and, hum, devastating.
Another point I noticed is the exceptional overall quality of the bass lines. They are adding some melodic twists very pleasant. Remember the best moment of "Revolver Junky" of Thee Michelle Guns Elephant ? When the bass player starts adding some melodic elements to the song, rocking as hell ? Well, on this release, this is such bass lines all the time.
Talking about the drums... Well, this is the sole point I regret a bit... The drums are so good, and well recorded, the snare is perfect but... If I had been the producer, I would have added a bit more of kick sub-bass frequencies in the mix. This is a minor point. The drums are punchy, very punchy, and...
I think we got a very rare alchemy of outstanding performers on this release. We, as an audience, are quite lucky that these musicians met and recorded such a good release ; don't hesitate and scroll back to the top of this paper. contron - where the flowers grow (contron is dead)
Here we are, to talk about Contron's newest release, "contron - where the flowers grow (contron is dead)", which is currently available as a pay-whatcha-want download from the artist.
Due to some uninteresting changes in my giant corporate email provider's policies, it happened that my mail client lagged a lot and I got, purely luckily, the news only today, a nice notification from yesterday, Contron has a new release !
Checking this particular mailbox, for which I suspected somehow a failure, was the kind of thing I do when I got absolutely nothing else to do, like, say, just now, at 3am in the middle of the night.
And now the download is about to complete, and I have to write about Contron, no matter about what time it is, Contron, who is, to me, the major artist over the past few years, since I discovered his first recordings back in 2012, and then I passionately followed all the story. A rich, colorful story, indeed.
Contron uses to sing with a incredibly pleasant acoustic guitar, to sing (with a slightly detuned backing vox line, quite often) about a strange universe that is, to me, of an incredible poetic quality, talking about friends, pills, sometimes girlfriends, and what is surrounding all this is just a very accurate vision of how hard to live and how empty can be the XXIth century's ordinary human's life, even if you are lucky enough to be in a relatively safe place of the world... It reminds me a lot about my (r)urban life & youth, just, you know, the roads, the cars, the small shops, and the definitive feeling of not being at all adequate to the world.
And now the download's finished, let's unzip and press play...
Or, wait, just before I still have to add that I'm a bit curious... And, let's say it, anxious, about what will be this release. I had noticed a few weeks before, when I saw that there's now a CD pack available "From me 2 U" for sale on his page... It's indicated "from the artist formerly known as contron" and this sounded a bit strange, and, maybe, somehow creepy, when you are following greedily whatever an artist can produce and someday he's "formerly known"... What happened ? I was a bit bothering... And now a release entitled "contron is dead".
Well, life ain't always easy, let's face the monster... I press play and...
white noise, more present that at any time before... Guitar notes, of a delicate grace, and immediately the voice, and... It's like being struck by a lighting, but spawned over a few seconds, the whole fragility of this construction, the feeling that emanate from it is just too much, you just can't cope with this...
And then the album really starts... And it's different from before, quite different from before. It's always in the style that the artist used to practice, that style like no other that he created for himself, but... It's just like if Contron had quit a part of his humanity, becoming some kind of etherized, pure soul, talking directly to you, to what you are at the deepest level, and it hurts. This album is not for the average people's needs, I have to say. It hurts.
Developing slowly but surely to more and more killer tunes, it will just chew you then spit the bones. With a perfect, totally suiting the album's mood lofi production, Contron lays his genially written guitar arrangements... After a while, I finally became able to put words about what was unclearly emerging as a semi thought in my mind... All what I have to say, is, we got some kind of nowadays' Robert Johnson here.
Well you know, I don't think that wall be remembered a century and a half away from us will be what is currently on TVs and radios. And if one album for the half of the 010's has a ticket to retain the attention of humanity for longer than a summer season, it may be this 'where the flowers grows'. That's my conclusion.
And I realize at this time that I've been listening to the album in random mode. For your information, the track that initially put me into pieces when I pressed play was "the marks", the fifth one.

Comfort Food - Waffle Frolic
Hello dear reader, and welcome back to the land of great sounds that I want to share, my old music review blog where, as you may know, I use to spread the world about releases that deserve to be discovered.
Today, we'll talk about Comfort Food's "Waffle Frolic" which was just released today. That's a lucky strike that it is this album, especially, that reached my ears just on time, because I play since a few days ago at the game of setting up multiple loudspeakers and amps carefully placed at various places in the flat, to achieve, when I'm located at the crossing of each speaker's field, a near-to-perfect listening experience, with each instrument in the mix clearly distinguishing and placed in the three-dimensional space. I must confess that I had very good time listening to some classics in my music library... And now it's time to see how a new album, that I had never listened to before, will render on this setup. I say this is a lucky strike because, and that's a great thing, it happens that the album I'm talking about today is at the crossroad of noise-rock and jazz... Especially the kind of music whose richness and sharpness can reveal its full potential on a demanding playback system... And, you may know so since I'm writing now, the album didn't deceived me.
It just starts quietly, with jazzy brass samples looping, drums and guitar developing slowly harmonically an rhythmically rich patterns as the song goes on... At the beginning I just though, well, it's a nice blend to hear, it's pleasant and well done... But I had rapidly to admit that it was going far beyond that. Because, Comfort Food's songwriting got a very special trick that drive them way further most of bands of alike style : they don't bury their music under tons of unnecessary breaks and movements. Instead of that, they surely develop sharp and efficient melodic and rhythmic lines in an hypnotic way, talking to the most primal part of the listener's soul, and driving the evolution of each track until it culminates to incredible heights and unknown territories. This is not some cold music computed by meticulous musician just following some style's guidelines and composing music just like a developer would write efficient software. No, definitively. This album is emotionally rich and actually makes you feel the music and its full expressiveness.
It also is really coherent, the band has, for sure, found a style and you can really guess the pleasure they probably have when exploring the paths through its possibilities. As I said, I rapidly got enthusiast when the layers of the first track were adding to each other and culminating in a great, definitive apotheosis ; at this time, I thought to myself "man, it's just like a 21th's century vision of what makes Messe pour le temps présent's second movement an all-time classic". And, while the album was playing, I enjoyed the fact that the success in composing and performing achieved with this first track is not due to chance, but actually belong to the personality and style of a musical project that has a clear and well-thought aesthetic.
But do not think that the album lacks of nuances ; each track has something special, they are all very different, but the track order has been, I think, carefully chosen to draw a progressive evolution, and while the initial track was reminding me Henry, I also would like to say that, once the record has reached its end, what I had in mind was much more MC5 when they were approaching free jazz and experimenting mixing it with the electric, rock sound. Still a 60's reference, just like if the spirit of what people used to call "pop" at this time (and this was definitively not nowadays' sense) was resonating loudly in our mid 2010's, the spirit of 60's high-end music, but with the addition of the freedom that noise rock or noisy pop, with all their ancestors up to 70's punk, have added to the way a conscious musician may want to play music today. That's a noticeable point that I tend to spot in most of the releases I love enough to write about here, a commonality that maybe someday will be clearly identified by musicologists and labeled, defined, named... But for now all I can say is that it's music for today, and music that I love today.
I think I quite clearly expressed my ideas now, and if you follow my advice you'll take the time to listen to this very interesting record. I just want to add, to end this review, that the two most important remaining points I noticed about it were, first off, the quality of the production, with a warm but still very sharp and powerful, clear sound that meets the musical excellence of the songwriting... And also, that the performing, talking about guitars and drums, is also at the same high level of excellence, never cold or too technical but actually imaginative and straightforward, and it's, to sum up, definitively a pleasure to listen to such a blowing band.

No Monster Club - I Feel Magic
Hey oh, here we go, here's another Underketing review ! Today we'll be talking about No Monster Club's "I Feel Magic" which is already available for preorder, either in digital format, or on of these nifty tape cassettes that the label, Already Dead Tapes, uses to release. The date for public availability being Feb, 19.
But, well, due to the awesome nepotism of being a music review blog maintainer, I got invited (such an honor) to get my hand on the release even before it's out. An advice, kid : start a music review blog ! Music perfectly fitting your taste will reach you automagically, and you'll get exclusive access to the albums you would actually pay for ! Actually, I will probably pay for this one, just because, I got just any physical release No Monster Club even issued... That's a long story, dudes.
Back in the mist of times, say, end of Spring in year 2009, I was lurking the #netlabel hashtag on Twitter, and I stumbled upon a webpage, from the (now defunct) Rack and Ruins netlabel, about a debut release, from a band called No Monster Club, and the page was saying something just like "Velvet Underground" blah blah blah...Quite intrigued, I pushed the "Play" button... Heard a few guitar chords... And the streaming stalled. But I was so charmed by the few seconds I had heard, that I downloaded the .zip...
The rest, now, is history. I enjoyed 'Tropical Decibels Volume 1" enough to buy the two volumes on tape cassette... And over years, kept on getting my hands on whatever No Monster Club could produce. Just because, word, No Monster Club is just like The Beatles. This band is defining a sound which will remain major in mankind history.
And, years after years, releases after releases, No Monster Club never deceived me, with their psych lofi garagepop straight from their island, that's just the kind of band that you can actually get old while listening to, just like, for me, Bob Marley, Blondie, Pixies, Nirvana or The Clash. Incredible ! A band from the XXIth century scene that was even better than our lovely dinosaur ancestors !
No need to say that I got quite anxious when pushing play to their newest release, "I Feel Magic"... Three... Two.. One... Ignition !
And the first arpeggios of Côte d'Ivoire are reasoning through the living room...
Well, this is the good ol' NMC... But actually, the sound is more precisely defined, more sharp, less lofi... I don't know, maybe, just like the average well produced indie release of the 80's... That's quite strange, I wasn't used to such a clean production...
Toy keyboards are aboard on this track, should I indicate.
The song, itself, is quite charming, a kind of strange lullaby, exactly the way the band used to serve tunes...
And now the second track is starting... Again, toy keyboards, sticky voice melodies, and, here's the chorus... And well, that's our beloved NMC, with the dynamics, the tricky sound, just excellent, all that I've to say.
I guess such a track, in a concert, would be a killer one.
Oh yeah ! Pixiesesque bassline starts... Lemonade, the KILLER SINGLE TRACK ! cant' wait, for the chorus... An ineffable endorphin load is expected... And that's on ! But actually, the band still plays it in demi teintes, not the hienergy chorus I was expecting... Maybe they added more colours to their... Uh, the song is over !
Fourth track... Still this sharp, well defined sound, for which I was not used to... Oh Bobby tries an unusual emphasis while singing on the intro... And the song really starts... Well, I guess this album, while being quite while produced, with a sound definitively oriented toward the broaden audience, is not of an easy access. You got to deserve to access its marvel. Too bad I planned to write a review from the first listening session. I guess it has to be listened again and again to reveal its true value.
Fifth track, starting with a Police/Jam-like arpeggio... Now I Know they achieved a major album... Oh Lord what a track. I feel shivers over my face, and when I think the tears are about to come, the song suddenly chill out... Until the heavy feeling starts again... Well, this "Charity Shop _Slaughterhouse" is definitively one of their best songs ever... If not one of the best songs ever ! Makes me think of Madness and XTC now... Excellent, definitively. Exactly why I love No Monster Club. I have nothing more to say.
And the albums goes on... Track after track, I now know that my writing skills is definitively not sharpened enough to describe how good this release is...
I got my soundtrack for when friends come in, for the whole year !
A smiley feeling is taking control over me... It's getting warm, even in French February with a low warming budget for the flat...
I got it. No Monster Club is mainly about naivety and innocence. It took me years, but now I got it !
Okay, it's time to write more generically about the album :
It's just usual business. No Monster Club is pioneering its way in the musical landscape, release after release, and this one is not an exception to the rule : it's a gem. Listen to it, or die silly.
I think it has the potential, both to please the old fans, and to gain new ones. But beware, once stung, you'll never recover !
This review is dedicated to Ismaël, a good friend since teen age and devoted NMC fan. You saw them live in Paris last fall, damn f*cker !

It's just usual business. No Monster Club is pioneering its way in the musical landscape, release after release, and this one is not an exception to the rule : it's a gem. Listen to it, or die silly.
I think it has the potential, both to please the old fans, and to gain new ones. But beware, once stung, you'll never recover !

Nikta - Ruby
Once again, the very nice folks at Already Dead Tapes sent me for reviewing purpose a very nice release that, once again, really deserves that I spent a bit of time to resurrect once more Underketing in order to spread the word about something that, you can ben sure, has its place in the list of the best cultural artifacts produced by mankind...
Yeah, cause, you know, I only talk here about the best releases that reach my ears. I don't want to write to say "uh, this is a good release but I don't like that much this or that", no, I write, outside the fact that it is because I can write, mainly to share what drove me to unknown skies at the speed of an alien star ship.
And, Nikta, with a definitive sens of what art should be, punched me down the ring with what is, to me, the best surprise from the world's dark electronica scene that I encountered since, say, Clathrus or *Ne Mochite Ranenyh Krotov*. Organic, sensual, soulful, dark but in the meanwhile emanating a strange and naive, innocent feeling of hope, I think that I have the new record to play in my flat when friends come around.
When the playback ended, I just thought, "oh, already ? " ; I would have enjoyed hours more of such a musical travel. The strange keys, the chord instruments, and, moreover, the omnipresent overdrive, drove me to a yet unknown land of discoveries and soft surprises ; I mean, surprises that are not brutal ones, but that insinuate into your mind at an unconscious level until you suddenly think "wait... This guy really did that ? ".
To sum up, I would definitively suggest you to give this album a listen. I'm not here to talk in vain, as I said before. I guess that most of people who will listen to my advice and click on the link above will also order one of the 50 lovely cassettes that have been printed. Definitively, a real, nice, good surprise for the current year, maybe the best release I heard in 2015, I don't know.

I hope that Joshua from Already Dead Tapes will for long still know what fits my mood and send me releases like this one. So then he started a blog, a Facebook page, and the dices rolling in the right direction, the thing rapidly became a really huge success. About 170 albums are awaited, from Indonesia to Argentina, from glitch to noisy-pop, for your breakfast and for your wedding party. With this collection of audio you'll get things to listen to until Christmas or later, and all of this for free, all of them located behind a single tag at Internet Archive. Peggy Lux - Phil spector's hairshop
That's absolutely a matter of luck if I found this 2000-2003 era gem, which was deposed by the Kollectif No Shape Music in the Dogmazic archive, which is currently offline, but as a volunteer for the no-profit I was beta-testing the future interface with a small subset of the archive loaded in it, and I found this album.
No need to say, you should be able to get your hands on it shortly, since much work has been done now and the Dogmazic music archive is about to be back again, and for good.
I've been deeply impressed by the high quality of this album, which reminds angrily of teenage loves, mixing Weezer, Buzzcocks, Pixies influence, but also able to sound like The Flamming Groovies on an intro...
I especially loved the versatility and audacity in the main vocals, which can, by moment, makes you remind of the young Richard Hell, but actually the main ensemble is at a very good level, with a punchy rhythmic section and excellent, simple and energizing guitar parts.
I must admit, there's also a strong Sonic Youth influence, here, quite it can be less evident than others. The production fits well the general mood of the album, with a clean and powerful sound for this garage-pop attack, and you can understand that we got what we use to have on this blog : an excellent recording. Because I won't waste my time talking about an average album.
I know I didn't reviewed much for the past two years, but this time, things had to be done... I couldn't find sleep if I hadn't shared with the world how good the record is.
Listen juste once to "I Can't Sleep" and you'll understand what I mean.

No Monster Club - People Are Weird
Well, first off, you know how much I value No Monster Club's contribution to nowadays' culture.
This said, I would say that this album is like what "London Calling" was to The Clash.
In other words, Bobby went back to his roots with Dublin Duck Dispensary, but not only, okay the cheap keyboards are here, but also excellent backing vocals in the high tone, and some popper, mainstream-candy arrangements that we did not hear from No Monster Club before, and that are not a losse.
I would retain "People Are Weird", with its african music influenced riff, I think, as the most catchy song of the album, but don't misunderstand me, the whole release is excellent.
As a maintainer of a music review blog, I've been able to get my hand on this record just a few minutes before Bobby finally decided to release it for streaming to the public, and this is a good thing, since I can write, for you, a review before the album is officially released.
And what should I say ? Excellent, over anything, excellent. You know I think that Bobby, with No Monster Club, is dynamiting the garage-pop scene since a few years. Excellent poppy garage tunes, and as I said before, No Monster Club is now back with more general-public catchy tunes, and, as they do it in their unique way, it is simply very good.
In conclusion, as an hardcore No Monster Club fan, I didn't find betrayed by this release. In contrary to that, I see my band evolving, reaching new playgrounds, at the great pleasure of listeners. It got so tropical here, that I removed my grunge 90's wool shirt.
You should definitively give a listen to it. There are short run CDs and cassettes, I give you the link for the European store, if any north/south american is interested by buying the tape, please post in the comments !

Matthew Squires and the Learning Disorders - Where the Music Goes to Die
From time to time I get an email from Already Dead Tape. I always have a listen to the link, mostly for a few seconds.
But, as often, since Already Dead Tape is a very good label, choosing their artists among the most talented they get in touch with, I often have a very good time listening to Already Dead Tapes releases, and, quite often, I feel motivated enough to write a review here.
This is now the case for this album, that you can buy for a small price, which is simply excellent.
A large smile came on my face when listening to the second track, and I knew that I would have to review it here.
The three things that seduced me the most in this release, talking about the music performers, where the sharp and clean-sounded guitars, the voice full of emotion, and this violin always pertinent without being too present.
I also liked the very nice production, just sufficiently lofi to be pleasant.
But the most interesting point of the album, despite of the very interesting quality of the arrangements,is certainly its pop/rock songwriting quality, with an overall very good approach of what music should be, according to my own taste. I think, if you are reading this post, that yours are similar, that's why I strongly suggest you to scroll back to the top of this page and to stream the entire album, which is available so, from the link I indicated.
I don't think that I am talking in vain. This album is very good, and I'll probably make any friend coming to my home listen to it for the next few months. It is an unique blend of indie, pop and rock aesthetics, that is highly enjoyable and should be liked by most people fond of these kinds of music.
Definitively, an album that you should listen to, and that will probably be on your side for many more years.

The Dizzy Brains - Various Songs
Hi there,
It has been a long time, since I didn't review anything, but today is a day in which I can't remain silent. I discovered today an excellent band from Madagascar, namely the Dizzy Brains. They dig their energy in the roots of the garage sound, and make me think of The Vibrators in a more rocky fashion.
I discovered them through a Facebook share, of their astounding video of Vangy, with the lyrics in French and English.
They are a band from Madagascar, and it makes me think that melodic punk rock gem may come from the southern territories, for the near future.
Yeah, that's because we are talking about garage punk here. The Dizzy Brains perfectly understood its spirit, and are outputing it as if their were raised listening to the best garage bands.
A few songs are available on Reverbnation, some of them in free streaming, some of them for free download. Too bad that their whole EP is not available for free download, but you know what it is, I choosed to review here music from all origin, no matter if it's available for free download, no matter if it's made available under a free license like Creative Commons.

The Binary Marketing Show - Anticipation of Something Else
Hello,
I'm here to talk a bit about a release that is available from Already Dead Tapes and Records, in a limited edition of 100 cassettes (digital download included).
Well, at first sight, it looks like an indie rock band playing IDM in a lo-fi way. Sure, lo-fi this album is. You got the warm sound of delightful handcrafred music. Warm and overdriven, seems the album to be. May I add that I totally enjoy and like the production ? It has, for sure, nothing to do with the cold-like-ice music you will find on mainstream media. Here, the feeling is important, and the mankind touch is really here. The voices and synths are warm, really warm, it has nothing to do with Kylie Minogue latest piece of ice.
What could I add ? I like this release a lot, mainly because of the supernatural beats and the masterfullness that manifest itself in every track. The songs are short, poppy, and make me thing a bit about experimental hip-hop like Cloud Dead or TTC used to make. You know, when the beats sound like a motorcar engine that has one piston out of order. In any case, highly enjoyable and never boring, the tracks of this recording are like a travel in strange seas, and the trip worth its price.
Think about it. For the price of a single cassette, you'll have access to unknown territories of sound, as I said never boring and while deeply experimental, still poppy as hell. The production, I already told you, is generally speaking very nice, with a lot of overdriven synths and never aggressive for the hears. In short, a masterpiece, that you could still enjoy many years away from now. The synths are sounding vintage, a bit 8-bits, and do a lot in the overall quality of the recording, along with the slightly detuned vocals.
What could I add, again ? I know it is hard for me to convince you to buy an album only with these little characters I'm sending through the net, but trust me, go take a look at this album, you won't be deceived. Which is usual with Already Dead Tapes, I must admit. I said the synths were vintage, and sure they are. If you like the warmth of 8-bit sound, you sure should take a listen, you won't be deceived.
To end this review, I would say that The Binary Marketing Show achieved a great success in the domain of music at large. Hey, I have not finished. Did I say that there were string instruments (a guitar, probably) that are mixed with synths ? OK, now that's all I wanted to say. contron - unreleased rarities bsides drugmusic 2013 (theme music for dying alone)
I first saw a notification in my emails, from bandcamp, telling me that a new Contron album had been published, it was in late November and the LP was sold US$7. I thought, I'll wait for next month's money to buy it... But when I came back this morning, I could see the album was now distributed in a "name your price, no minimum" manner, and I've been able to get it for free. You can do so, or pay for it if you can afford, from contron.bandcamp.com
Some people may say that contron is always doing the same thing, short lofi songs with acoustic guitar, and I must admit that the melodic lines are often alike from one song to another, but I wouldn't say contron is always doing the same thing. Instead of that, I would say that he is building his own universe, that is music with personality that sounds like no one else's music, and you can say very early, in a blind test, that these songs come from contron.
I've been a bit astonished with how dark the song title are, this is all about sad stories and dying and so on. But the music still retain a part of joy, as of per usual with this project, which is a bit a darker version of Dublin Duck Dispensary without the electric guitar, sometimes.
I would say that by issuing this release, contron was kind enough to make us a really nice end-of-year gift, because the album is generally speaking deeply interesting and pleasant to hear.
I don't want to dictate you what you have to do, but if I were you I would use the download link to give this album a try. To me, contron's release are all masterpieces that deserve to be talked about - that's what I'm doing now with this review. So then, don't wait, go download before it's pay-to-download again ;)

Panda Kid - Summertry

Things seemed simple, at the first sight. I could have wrote "Panda Kid, in its usual quality 60's influenced, lofi garage pop, released a new album but actually, they weren't able to get an instant classic hit, like they did before with 'Junkie Girl', but it is nevertheless a high quality album".
Because, we all know (maybe you too) a junky girl that would be an awesome girl to get with.
But, hey, yeah, actually Panda Kid managed to get **another** instant classic on this record, which is, for sure, the "Summertry" song, with its rough beat and its rough guitars.
So then, I cannot write that Panda Kid didn't made again the famous trick used with "Junkie Girl". The "Summertry" song has it all !
You may know, I haven't been writing very much for this blog, recently. But two forthcoming albums were, which I couldn't decently sleep on, it was Panda Kid's one, for which I am writing currently, and No Monster Club's one, for which I may write soon.
Panda Kid melts the most interesting pieces of 60's surf and late 60's garage in an unique brew. Just take a poke and you'll be instantly seduced. I follow this band this they issued a split album with No Monster Club, and thanks to NMC's Bobby I didn't miss anything until now, and I should recommend to anyone to do the same.
Nowayday's scene is filled by bands that are simply boring, but actually there's noise alchemist that do what HAS TO BE DONE, and I'm just grateful. After listening to Summertry, that got available to me thank to PK's Al, I can say that nowaday's scene also include EXCELLENT bands that deserve to be heard more than once, with all the fuzz needed to be proudly put next to the first Stooges album.
I know, you people, you are maybe not in the review writing team, and you may not have access to free download as I do. Well, what can I say ? This album was issued as vinyl, but you probably can get mp3s for free when buying (but for this I am not sure) and anyway, nowadays there's folk playing

After listening to Summertry, that got available to me thank to PK's Al, I can say that nowaday's scene also include EXCELLENT bands that deserve to be heard more than once, with all the fuzz needed to be proudly put next to the first Stooges album.
I know, you people, you are maybe not in the review writing team, and you may not have access to free download as I do. Well, what can I say ? This album was issued as vinyl, but you probably can get mp3s for free when buying (but for this I am not sure) and anyway, nowadays there's folk playing

And you definitively go check, because most of today's production are so lame, and such and exception is notable enough to have you listening to it.

contron - some new songs by the freewheelin contron
Hi all,
Here we are for a new review of a contron album. Maybe you'll remember the previous one ? Well, this one is, it's now usual, very pleasant. Some lo-fi recording, voice nevertheless heavily here, guitar, sometimes harmonica, and that's all.
The contron magic resides maybe in the hypnotic voice lines alongside with guitar arpeggios and chords, and, all I can say is that the magic operates. This album is a kind of masterpiece. I can't believe I waited till today before I went to the contron Bandcamp ( http://contron.bandcamp.com/ ) to realize there were a new album available.
I talked about chords and arpeggios, but solos are very nice too. I talked about the hypnotic part of the voice lines, and I must stress on this point : the voices are very addictive, if that's the kind of thing you like.
Overall, a really neat album, that I would recommend if you like this kind of american music, very soulful.
You can download this album in a name-your-price manner, including for free, and if I were you, I wouldn't miss this opportunity to discover (unless you were wise enough to listen to the previous one after reading the review here) someone who definitively deserve to be called a great musician.

Computers Kill People - The Fun Machine
Wow. Wow. Wow. I discovered this band by a lucky strike, trough a YouTube suggestion for their Doors cover. Actually, I didn't listened much to the cover, but this Parisian band seduced me enough - what a name ! to have me downloading their maxi-EP, which is available for free from their own website, http://thefunmachine.cpukillpeople.com/
Wow. Wow. Wow. What a slap ! Actually, the kind of release I totally enjoy, with overdrive. Makes me think a bit of LAMF by Johnny Thunders and The Heartbreakers.
But while LAMF is a straightforward (and awesome) punk rock release, here we got some heavier music. Queen of the Stone Age is a influence, as quoted by the band. I just enjoy this music a lot. This is plain excellent stuff, powerfull.
I'm listening while writing, and this is **definitively** very good stuff. A slight Pixies/Post Grunge influence on "The Perfect Twin", with more poppy guitar riffs, well, this is a kind of rocky heaven. This band rules, I tell you. I guess they may have a pretty decent career, if they keep on their non-compromisive way to rock and roll.
May I add that the band is decent enough to provide free FLAC lossless format download ? Let's drink my cup of coffee and keep on listening.
Well, how can I sum up ? While the overall result sounds very modern and 2010's, there's also a real 60's approach in the way songs are written, maybe a Steppenwolfian thing, I don't know. Actually this band seems born to be wild. Stooges are never far away, too. MC5 may be round here, too. Well, don't misunderstood me, this is still a QOTSA influenced band with heavy, overdriven sound, but it seems, there's something deeper, digging at the roots of 60's rock and roll counter-culture. But I may be wrong.
Well, the EP is almost finished. Seems a ballad is coming... Oh, overdriven guitar, low tempo, nice way to end a release. This is (You Could Be) My Sin. The release is still slightly overdriven, this is really very nicely produced.
I guess we'll keep on earing about them.

Of Hard Rock, and Fukked Up, and Cafe, and mice
Please note that Cafe, once spelled Café, means Coffee, which also means Kawa, and, luckily enough,
-I'm currently busy, drinking coffee on Monday's morning, I like happy Mondays, I don't especially hate anything while I drink coffee in the morning
-After months of what wouldn't be cleverly called a hiatus, the people of mice is back where I am currently. One of its members has been seen around, it started a few weeks ago. I'm so delighted of this that yesterday I provided him, or her, with a cumbersome (for a mouse) quantity of feta cheese
And then, now I'm writing, and, this is also true, it's now time to stop writing, and to go fill another mug (be sure that the coffee here is relatively lightly caffeine-loaded according to the standards of most countries).

Just to sum up a bit, when I started writing for Underketing about one year ago, the aims were :
-to make sure that there would be a somehow more central place for my little music review hobby that wasted some of my time since a few years back
-to promote myself, by talking about my favorite music projects (and this point is very important, since most of them will be featured in the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame, including field recording remixer's projects, before the current nanosecond ends)
Also, I didn't want to waist time looking for what had already been written, and I wanted to write honestly, so I started by machinegun-style posting reviews for any good record I could remember. The honest part of the thing resides in the idea that with less time to think, I wouldn't have enough time to counterfeit my feeling.

A random thing that cross my mind now, is that it would be useful to mention that after issuing their newest release in mid-2012, their band-owned and operated label's website blew up, maybe due to poor hardware at the commercial hosting facilities they use, while everything was ready for (as of per usual) free download and (as of per usual) very cheap and high quality physical sound-carrying devices distribution.

I guess there's not many of the usual readers of this crappy thing that has been a website... Ahem, a website-faking blog... And that is now a not-even-blog-faking blog... But I may be wrong... That are currently (and, just wondering, is there any usual readers for all this, at all ? ) located near south, maybe southwest, oh, ladies and gentlemen, if you were on twitter you would have an acronym to guide you, and a symbol before, and you would be maybe already clicking somewhere (if you are, depending of your location, rich or poor) or gently touching a friendly smooth and rectangular surface (if you are, depending of your income, geolocated or not), but, what is this ?
Ok, I'll sum up :
After The Smoke is, as far as I know, currently at SXSW. They produce something that, as someone as dumb as me when talking about hip-hop, I would define as hiphop-do. Do is to be taken in the Japanese sense, which is the one of the Chinese word tao.
A thing that may be interesting to some : I'm listening while writing (now, Wallstreet, there's a YouTube on video, or the contrary), and although, before pushing the "play" button, I had noticed the "Marcus Garvey" title, which made me think, if not to Marcus Garvey, to the Sion orbital place in Neuromancer (there is a spacecraft of this name, and Maelcum's Sion's Marines, and Maelcum, also, is the spacecraft's pilot) and also, I thought of a random and honest kid wishing to establish definitively what he is by using a somehow known reference - I think, also, this possee is not a kid possee - , when I noticed that due to time that goes by and may cause this paper to be on time for SXSW 2014, I was checking, and saw I hadn't even noticed anything, Marcus Garvey was no longer playing, and since, I'm happier.

Underketing awards - Best video for free or open-licensed music 2012 - The result

Ok, now it's time. I know, I know, it was supposed to be here before the end of January. But, maybe The Guardian is always on time, but, hey, this is not the case for the mess you are currently struggling into.
For the people who haven't be here 24 hours a day for the past year, here's a reminder :

This, was a poll for the best 2012 free or open licensed music video. Not the video. The rule was, the song of the video had to be available under any kind of free or open licence.
